In Gorean society, Adoption is a high-stakes legal maneuver. Because Caste is hereditary, adopting someone—especially into a High Caste—is the only way to "graft" a new branch onto a family tree. It requires the consent of the Caste of Scribes to ensure that lineage records remain accurate.
